I went to Google to know about John's relatives, and i found out his parents name were Reewis and Helga.
John's Wikipedia page said that their names were carved on their grave stones. I was skeptical i little so i looked a clip of Rambo last blood on YouTube.
The screenshot i took hasn't the best quality, but i focused a lot on the letters written on their graves (Helga's was a bit harder to read since it's almost a foot further from Reewis')
I wrote the names so you can compare them to the ones written on the gravestones.
Obviously, i did not bothered to check back when i watched last blood for the first time last year. But it's kind of a fun info that John's parents were given actual names.

Rambo appreciation post.
Rambo First Blood said something. It was a commentary on how America treats it's veterans of war, discards them as if one can simply "turn off" the impact of shell shock and all the brutality of falling head first into hell on earth.
Rambo First Blood Pt. 2 and Rambo 3 were big budget action movies set to capitalize on a character that is now largely expendable and used as a weapon.
Rambo (Rambo 4) and Rambo Last Blood (Rambo 5) fully accept and gleefully rejoice in what the character John Rambo has become: Exploitation. Grindhouse. Murder fantasies based on revenge in being a victim of a system that is inherently broken. This is not to say by any means that I do not enjoy these films. Quite the opposite, my favorite films are within the genre of revenge and exploitation. Irresponsible style over substance, one track mindedness, and heart ripping gore so brutal and vivid one would br forgiven for thinking there must have been a sale on vacuous containers full of fake blood.

how would rambo say "I love you" for the first time?
sorry for so many asks its just that you capture rambo so well and I simply cannot get enough and I strongly believe John would be the first to say it although cannot imagine in what context thx for your time ilysm 💚
oh my goodess don't ever apologize for sending in your amazing ideas!! there are so many great ways to answer this, im so giddy thinking about it EEEE I also think John would say it first its just IN WHAT SITUATION
I think no matter what situation it is, he would spend so much time beforehand thinking about it, coming to terms with what he feels for you. but when the moment comes, he doesn't give you any fluff, no big speech. He's a man of few words. So he'd probably just say it simply. Or if he's in a stressful situation, he might say it a little louder, not yelling, but kinda saying it with urgency, ya feel?
anyway, canon-typical violence warning for this one
Scenario 1: after John has settled down, you guys meet and become friends, then as you grow closer the Feeings™ come in and you get together, and after a while he can finally feel safe enough with you to allow himself to love you. He has his reservations, mostly because he deems himself 'unworthy of love' (poor bby) but as more time passes he heals and comes to realize that's not true and that he is loved by you, even though you haven't said it out loud yet, your actions (a man of actions, he is) speak volumes about how you feel, and they've said nothing but complete love. Anyway as he thinks about it morehe realizes its the kind of love he now can't live without, and he wants to spend the rest of his life with you, so one night as you two were playing a board game, you got competitive (as you always do, but its in a nontoxic, cutsey kinda way) and he sees that beautiful spark in you that drew him in in the first place and he can't help but smile and say "I love you." It was spur of the moment, something he thought about a lot recently but didn't really plan to say right then. The moment he said it out loud, he knew it was true. You went silent, his confession taking you for surprise, so he said it again, even more sure of himself this time. "I love you. I want to spend my life with you," he says simply. A beat goes by before you respond. "I love you too. I dream of spending my life with you, John." AAAH you guys are so cute!!!
Scenario 2: for some reason he's supposed to train you for a mission or something, and yall get CLOSE AND PERSONAL when he's showing you some hand to hand stuff like - AAAAAH anyway that's when you both realize you're attracted to each other, but not in love. That comes when the mission comes closer and you guys are not only training, but connecting and having fun together (a rarity in times like this) and the night before the mission he can't sleep bc he's super worried about you and that's when he has this realization that he's in love with you and he's worried something will happen to you. When the mission happens you get caught and he goes back to save you because he can't let them hurt the newfound love of his life and he's SUPER mad so he gos on a classic rambo mission like in the movies, and he finds you. He's soooo relieved to see you're mostly unharmed but he's still running on adrenaline, so he kinda blurts it out a little rough and loud - "I love you." and then you look at him for a sec in shock but like you're pining for him too so you responded in the same way - "I love you too." But yall are in the middle of enemy territory so you gotta skedaddle out of there.
Oh my gosh I just thought of something!! yk that scene in that one Pirates of the Caribbean movie where Will and Elizabeth get married in the middle of a battle?? Like imagine something like this where yall are fighting for your lives side by side and you're already in a relationship and like have talked about getting married but you dont know if you'll make it out of this, so you turn to trautman or something (lets pretend he can officiate marriages for this) and yell over the battle "Trautman!! Marry us!" obvs he responds with "Now??" and both you and John yell back "YES!" so Trautman says the stuff and after what seems like an eternity while you guys keep fighting, he finishes with "You may now kiss the bride," and to give you guys a little pause in the fight to do so, John throws a grenade at the enemy and yall kiss and get married in front of an explosion AHHHHHHHA I'm feral for this rn
Scenario 3: guys ok so what if you were a skilled assasin, hired by an agency to take out a threat in the US army, one John J. Rambo. You accept the job bc they were gonna pay you a small fortune, enough to leave this assasin's life behind and settle down. You begin your search where your boss said John was supposed to be on a mission, somewhere in a forest, where there was a US base nearby. GIRLIE you thought you were hunting him but he was hunting you 0-0 You caught on, realized he was following you so you pretended to kee tracking him but you led him further away from his base, closer to being cornered against the bottom of a giant cliff wall at the edge of the forest.
"You can come out now," you called out to the empty woods around you. He walked out of seeminly nowhere, becoming visible when he steped from behind a tree to your side. You eyed him, the knife in his hand catching your attention first, his stance showing you he was ready for anything.
"Well, lets get it over with then," you start.
"Who hired you?" he asked, ignoring your earlier statement. He didn't enjoy fighting women, it just didn't sit right with him.
You ignore him and sprint at him, giving the first blow in a fight that lastedfor too long. Eventually, you got really tired, and he was too but didn't show it. You knew you wouldn't last much longer like this, (he had really done a number on your ribs) so you cut your losses and barely escaped. As you did, you could hear him calling after you.
"I'll find you!!"
girliepop you were lowkey anxious to fight him again, the people who hired you really downplayed his skills, so you underestimated how hard killing him would be. But a job is a job, so you healed up for a few days before going out again. It didn't take long for him to follow through with his promise and find you before you even started trying to track his moves. He was so sassy about it too, leaning against a tree sharpening his knife as he just let you come up to him.
"Really?" you said with a roll of your eyes.
he gave you the tiniest hint of a smirk as he looked down at you. "I told you I'd find you." He looked you over before pushing off the tree trunk and taking a few steps closer to you, yet still out of reach of any weapons you might or might not be hiding. "You want to go again, or tell me who hired you?"
"I guess if you're gonna make my job easier by coming to me, it's a fair assumption to say you want to go again."
"Suit yourself."
Yall go at it again, holding nothing back. You were going to start with your handgun, but the first thing he did was knock it out of your hands. Okay, plan B. Your trusty dual knifes, similar to his, but a little smaller. You began to feel the fatigue setting in, and yet again the infamous Rambo was doing fine. You refused to run away again. You gave it all you got, getting a few good moves in that you thought could disarm or hurt him. But it wasn't enough. Your depleted energy eventually got to you, and you eventually found yourself on your back, your enemy on top of you. You were panting, your arms shaky with adrenaline and now fear. You waited for the final blow, but it never came. You could hear his heavy breathing. You dared open your eyes to see him looking down at you with his hard, intense expression, but there was something in his eyes telling you he didn't want to kill you. There. That was his weakness.
You softened your eyes, as if realizing something. He hesitantly softened the grip he had on your arms, allowing you to grab a small blade from his utility belt in an instant, and stab him in the side. He gunted and fell back onto his knees, releasing your body and allowing you to run away. He tried to chase after you, but after a few steps you saw him crumple to the ground.
That was a close call. Too close, you told yourself. After that incident, you poured yourself into your training. He knew what you would do the next time you tried that, so you had to make sure it didn't happen again.
anyways the next time you see him and try to fight, he gets you on the ground, and standing over you he asks "Aren't you tired of this?"
it catches you off guard, and for some reason you answer honestly.
"Yeah, I am." You sat up, stiffening. "So just let me kill you and I can be done with this stupid job!" you yelled, flinging your hands with emphasis. It was a small outburst, only a portion of the frustration that was building up for the last few days.
He kept his face neutral, then "Then why are you doing it?"
"Money," you answered simply flicking your eyes to him, searching his face for any judgment. You found none.
He stayed silent. With a sigh, you pushed yourself off the ground.
"But a job's a job," you muttered, walking away. "See you next time, soldier."
this kinda cat and mouse goes on for a while, you trying to kill him and he's trying to convince you each time to give up (by kicking your butt) Like he doesn't want to kill you, but you are stubborn and annoying, so he kinda hates you, and you are frustrated bc it wasn't supposed to take this long and you need the money to carve out a life for you somewhere you can feel safe and not have to fight again, so you're just LIVID at him because he's the one roadblock to that and he REFUSES TO DIE. Not only that, but you can tell he's trying not to hurt you beyond repair when you fight, and the fact he's 'going easy on you' in a way makes you mad. like come on, just fight a girl like a man. but also you're painfully aware that if he did, you'd probably be dead.
You tried other tactics, like poison. You pretended to give up, play the peace treaty card with some alcohol, but he did not buy it. honestly it was kinda insulting how he looked at you with a "really?" expression on his face. so next time you tried to be a little less subtle with a lethal injection hidden in your belt. That was a close call for John, but he caught it before you could inject it. tbh you're scary to him sometimes. he kicked ur butt a lil harder that day :(
eventually the people who hired you got tired of you not being able to complete the mission, so they give you one more chance, and if you can't do it they like idk kill you or ur fam(don't ask why, they're bad guys) so now you're SUPER scared motivated, prepping for the big fight and all, and that's when john finds your lil hidey hole or wherever you train/live?? maybe like a RV trailer some miles away or something
he just kinda lets himself in and he sees you seemingly asleep, a blanket draped over you, but you're actually sulking with the reality of an impossible task that had dire concequences if left undone. you hear him come in ofc, and without turning, you say "Just get it over with. You win."
It's strange seeing you so dejected, something must be wrong. John honestly thinks about it but brushes that thought away, instead making a decision in that moment that changes things.
"No. Get up."
You turn to him, anger written in your features. How dare he refuse to kill you when you gave him consent to do so.
"You won't get better like this. Get up, we're training"
you begrudgingly get up, and meet him outside where he stands waiting for you. you're still in your sleeping clothes, almost embarassed he's seeing you like this. You guys spar like any other day, but he's a lot gentler now. you still hold onto a backup plan in case it's a trick.
"You give too much too early. Save your energy," he instructs.
You roll your eyes but you hold back as he says.
"You won't win a fight fueled by anger. You have to channel it. Keep it in your control," he says after a while longer.
"What, so you're not pissed at me when we fight?" you spat.
"I didn't say that. I control it." His reply came smoothly.
you guys continue the lesson until the sun begins to set. As the sun dipped behind the horizon, you sat down.
"I'm calling it," you panted. Rambo got his shirt, long discarded after he got sweaty in the day, and joined you on the ground. You sat in silence, just watching the sky together.
"What's going on?" He asks after a moment.
"What do you mean?"
"You would have tried to kill me by now," he said, casting a glance at you.
"Mmm, don't tempt me," you managed a dry laugh. An awkward silence fell over both of you, not really knowing waht to say after that. You knew it was your move. You know what? Screw it.
"I don't know why you decided to help me. You're right, I should have tried to kill you today." You sighed, reigning your frustration in. None of this was his fault, and he's been way nicer than you deserved. "I have one last chance to get rid of you. If I can't..." you trailed off, the intrusive thoughts of impending doom grasping your mind.
"They'll kill you?" Rambo finished your thought.
"Yeah, or worse." You thought for a moment, battling yourself internally before asking "What would you do?"
"Attack the base, neutralize the threat against myself." He stated it so simply, like that was his average Tuesday evening.
"Yeah right," you scoffed, standing up. "I can't even win a fight against you. Let me just storm into their base and hope I can win." You looked down at the him, your anger returning. "Screw you." You marched back into your trailer. Why were you like this?
John returns to his base/camp thingy, a plan already forming in his mind. Spending non-lethal time with you and learning more about you made him feel protective in a way.
For some reason, he thought of you as a friend. One that stabbed him and keeps trying to kill him, but still a kind of friend. And he couldn't deny the warmth in his chest when you took his advice as he taught you, the subtle smile you tried hiding when you got it right. Why were you so attractive when you put your all into fighting? Your fluid moments made it look more like a dance. You were even beautiful when he knocked you down.
It wasn't just your physical features that were burned into his mind, although he hesitated to admit they were from the moment he met you, but your spirit, the energy you brought in anything you did. It wasn't just fighting. There was a passion, a fire in your eyes in the passing moments that he couldn't help but come to love.
Crap, that's the L word.
He pushed the thoughts away for now, opting to start some recon on this base you talked about.
---
You spent the rest of the night grappling with yourself, cursing yourself for spilling your guts to him. You should have kept quiet.
You tried to sleep, but at a certain point you knew it wasn't going to happen. Not until your mission was done.
You gathered your courage, pushing the thoughts of John Rambo out as you prepared to finish your mission.
'Storm the base?' you thought, 'He's insane.'
'Insanely hot,' your mind finished for you.
You groaned. You were making this harder than it needed to be. It doesn't matter if he's hot, you needed to finish this stupid job. It didn't matter if he was tall, ripped, helped you when he didn't need to, none of that. You needed to be focused for this.
You started around the forest, following his tracks. They brought you to the US base. Right, it's like 3am, he's probably asleep. You turned to go back when you saw another pair of his tracks, off to the side going in another direction. These were fresher.
You followed them, the path becoming strangely familiar as you walked it further. You were about halfway there when it clicked. He was headed toward your employer's base. You started running, hoping he wasn't already doing what you thought he was.
You slowed as you got closer, dodging the postguard's lights as you looked for John.
As per usual, he found you first, covering your mouth and pulling you into him just in time to avoid another guard's beam of light. You panicked at first, but as soon as you felt his arms you knew who it was.
"Are you stupid? You can't be here," you whisper-yelled after he released you.
He just lifted an eyebrow in response. Typical.
He led you to a safer hiding spot, where he told you everything he knew. Apparently he got here hours ago and had already combed thorugh the entire base, taking account of the number of soldiers, locations of weapons, and safe hiding places. It was a small, temporary base, but you were still impressed.
"We can take it down," he finished.
You thought for a moment.
"Why are you doing this?" you asked softly.
He hesitated, conflict flashing on his face before his controlled, hard expression came back.
"Tell you later," he said as he silently walked closer to the base.
You followed, but a guard's light flashed at you as you moved. The guard's yell was silenced as you spotted John across the dirt path, already grabbing another arrow and slotting it in his bow. Where the heck did that come from?
It was too late, more guards heard a commotion and were coming closer to investigate.
Well, I guess it's now or never.
I'm bad at action scenes and it's 5am, so anyway yall start taking over the base in rambo's signature style, but at the height of the action, maybe running into the bossman directly while you're on your own you get caught, and Rambo bursts in, but seeing you at gunpoint, he puts his weapon down, and then the rest of the soldiers come and surround him, bossman shoves you into the circle with him, and idk gives a villain speech. tbh i wrote myself into a corner here, idk how yall survive this, but through the power of love (or maybe a well-placed, well-timed explosion from a bomb John plants), yall get a distraction enough to fight your way out.
you guys are chillin, walking back to John's base, where he agreed to take you after you promised you were done trying to kill him, and you ask again why he did this.
He stopped in the path after hearing the question, Looking at you as you turned to look at him.
"John, are you okay?" You took a step towards him, reaching your hand to place it on his bicep.
He was faster, suddenly cupping your face to kiss you. He kept it steady and respectful, just as he was with you. You leaned into him, feeling a little dizzy when he pulled away.
"I love you," he said softly as he looked into your eyes.
"I think I love you too," you realized out loud.
The air around you felt clearer, like you could breathe easier after you confessed what you knew deep down. You grabbed his hand, leading him forward on the path.
"Lets go start something new," you said gently. John smiled, liking this softer version of you that until now, had only peeked her head out when they talked after their practice session. He determined even though your relationship was just blossoming, he would do anything for you.
guys this moodboard just came to life a little more
waow that was longer than I thought it was gonna be, hope you enjoyed it! obvs for the last scenario I would add in more chemistry between them but I'm tired so if someone requests it I'll make it it's own thing but until then you can use your imagination. (mine is worn out for now, that's why the ending is so rough too)

#HARPERSMOVIECOLLECTION
2023
MOVIES I HATE
I watched Rambo: Last Blood (2019)
As far as Rambo movies go, I like the first one and that's it, so I'm not overly excited to sit through this.
John Rambo seeks revenge against a Mexican human trafficking ring.
The original First Blood film, which is the first John Rambo movie, is an action film about a broken veteran being pushed beyond his limit and waging a war against the cops who pushed him. It's a good movie and it gave us a character with depth and purpose. Every Rambo film from there on out was about nothing but a well trained guy murdering a bunch of people with lots of bullets and big knives. Low brow stuff.
This time around it seems some producer had the grand idea, "What if Instead of Liam Nelson in Taken, it was Rambo?!" And off we go to the land of mediocre old man action movies.
Director Adrian Grunberg seems to view Mexico as a corrupt trash heap, full of dirty evil men. Another film I've seen by him, Get The Gringo, starring Mel Gibson imagines Mexico as a place full of gang members and evil general-esque crime lords. This movie is really no different. The only "good" people in mexico are some of the women of course. Especially the pretty ones. Lucky for those women, there is a badass white guy with a heart of gold to save them from all the evil of their home country. It'd be possibly even forgivable had this been a part of one of Grunberg's films, but the fact that the evils and dangers of Mexico are the full plots of two of his films is incredibly suspect. Especially in an era where people who come from Latin America are demonized on the political stage.
Mexico and many foreign countries are easy to sell as lawless wastelands in films like this, because their audience of Fox News Americans buys into this shit. But, I'll get off my soapbox and talk about the film itself.
I was surprised when this film opened up and I saw some very pretty shots of wide open country and a nice ranch. I thought for a second this movie was going to look good throughout. I got the sense that maybe this movie would examine Rambo in his later years, dealing with a life of hardship and facing new limitations when danger comes to meet him. Sadly, those shots and that imagined story arc were me lying to myself. The camera work and style quickly turns to the typical mid-budget action look. There's a driving scene with such bad green screen that I was actually shocked by it. The writing cares nothing for the character. If you told me this was an already written script that they just plugged Rambo into to sell more tickets, I'd believe you without hesitation. It's very by the numbers and it can be so generic that it can become rather tedious. The dullness of this script is so miserable to sit through. The attempts at emotional connection are as dead as Rambo's niece. Yes, she dies. Do we care? No. Are you upset that I told you? I don't give a shit.
Let's just move on to what I suppose this movie was made for, the violence and action.
The action in this film is fine, I guess. It's definitely violent, but we don't really feel the glory of revenge these movies usually pay off with. By the time the real war broke out, I didn't care enough, I just wanted it to be over.
We find ourselves in these winding underground tunnels that Rambo has built over the years. Guys get caught in traps, Rambo is always in the right place at the right time to finish them off.
This has the feeling of the diminishing returns of other cheap sequels. Like watching the worst of the Death Wish series.
Solidly a movie I hate because of its mediocrity, awful use of a character, cheap use of Mexico as a land of bad guys and just the sheer waste of time and resources that went into making it.

Cranky Curmudgeon: "Rambo: Last Blood"
Rambo: Last Blood I don’t think this was made directly for streaming because it’s a 2019 film, but it is a good example of “second screen syndrome”. That is a movie created with a certain blandness that makes it easy to sorta kinda watch the film while you’re also watching TikTok on your phone. I hadn’t intended to review it, because it was so lame compared to the others, but I wanted to comment…
